Progress Report April 2026

I decided a blog could be useful and took a page from Mr Abercrombie.

I started April by rereading Rebellion, tweaked a word here and there, but overall I’m still happy with it, which is a very special feeling. In the second week I sent it out to a new batch of potential agents. 

Having done that, I turned my attention to Revelation (the prequel) and Reformation (the third book). Revelation got about 3500 new words while Reformation got about 6300 new words. I also started to fiddle with a short story collection that’s intended to give more exposure to side characters. Just naming it (Recollections) and structuring it so far, no writing done yet.

I also reread the second book (Resurgence) and overall I feel like that one's a lot stronger than Rebellion, but Rebellion is the beginning and the story has to start at the beginning. Right? I went over Rebellion again unable to see any good way to improve on it, but shelving that for later consideration.

After two weeks I had received two rejections and started to ponder whether there was another way to gain attention than to just send emails into people’s slush piles. During the last week of April I got the idea to set up a TikTok account and crossposting to a new Instagram account. TikTok seems to be taking off, but Instagram is struggling.

I went over Rebellion again rewriting any "felt" and "seemed" that hung around on the pages after a TikTok video suggested these as telling instead of showing. We want to show, not tell. 

So far the series consists of:

• Rebellion (Tanja is protag, sits at 75k words)

• Resurgence (Hanabi is protag, sits at 88k words)

• Revelation (Jack is protag, this is a prequel but should go after the sequel in publishing order, currently at 27k words)

• Reformation (Rasmus is protag, currently at 23k words)

• Recollections (short story collection, takes place across the series' timeline and beyond, but should go after the third instalment in publishing order)
